She Sang to Me – Villanelle Assignment

by Ralkkai

Be mine, sweet nightingale and sing your song.
And tell me how the world ends with lust.
So teach me and I too may sing along.

So sing a chant of beauty’s gaze, so long.
And want of touch – Release me from this rust.
Be mine, sweet nightingale and sing your song.

My eyes grow dim. My ears hear “come along
and I’ll remove these shackles of distrust.”
So teach me and I too may sing along.

I fall into your voice where I belong –
Into you – taking off that ancient crust.
Be mine, sweet nightingale and sing your song.

I don’t want righteousness if this is wrong.
So be my songbird until we are dust.
So teach me and I too may sing along.

This song, this touch, I’ve yearned for far too long
My eyes grow dim, my head upon your bust.
Be mine, sweet nightingale and sing your song.
So teach me and I too may sing along.
